BRAZIL
Brazil is recognized as the world capital for Cosmetic and Plastic surgery, with patients traveling from all around the globe. There are more plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures performed each year in Brazil alone (over 400,000 in fact) than in the whole of the European Union. All Med Journeys’ facilities are fully accredited by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) and conform to the highest standards of professionalism.
For hundreds of years, Brazil has symbolized the great escape into a primordial, tropical paradise, igniting the Western imagination like no other South American country. From the mad passion of Carnival to the immensity of the dark Amazon, it is a country of mythic proportions and staggering beauty. There are stretches of unexplored rainforest, islands with pristine tropical beaches and endless rivers. And there are the people themselves, who delight the visitor with their energy and joy.
Brazil is the largest country in South America. It borders every other country of the continent except Chile and Ecuador. Brazil is very much a country of contrasts. When someone hears the word Brazil, one thinks of the great Amazon forest, fantastic beaches, great soccer players, Carnival time - and that's all. Well, Brazil, the most important country in South America, certainly has much more to offer - warm people, great cities with everything from historical sites to high technology, a wide range of weather patterns, a lovely mixture of cultures and races - and much more!
São Paulo
São Paulo, one of the largest cities on earth, is a teeming, befuddling,
intoxicating place. Its art and entertainment are on par with any world
capital. Paulistanos believe in working hard and playing harder, and despite
complaining about traffic and pollution, wouldn't dream of living elsewhere.
Sao Paulo is known as a tourist hub for its varied cuisine and thousands
of clubs and lounges. The city includes Portuguese, African, and even Japanese
immigrants, making it one of the most culturally diverse cities south of
the equator. There are festivals throughout the year, including the Bienal
art festival, two world-renowned fashion weeks, and various parades and
marathons. Those looking to travel to Sao Paulo can come for the Brazilian
Carnival celebrations, or just spend time relaxing at a spot on the nearly
400 miles of its beaches.
Though Brazil's official high season lasts from December to March, this is the time when travelers to São Paulo will find the best accommodation bargains. If weather considerations form part of your travel plans, be aware that the city occupies a high plateau, making it chilly in the Brazilian winter and very warm but rarely stifling hot in summer. Unfortunately, smog is a serious problem, especially on dry, sunny days. Frequent gray, drizzly weather can be oppressive at times, but does keep temperatures moderate and the air relatively clean. Carnival is celebrated in São Paulo, but at nowhere the same magnitude as Rio or Salvador. The city's two biggest events are the Bienal de São Paulo, a huge gathering of modern visual art from around the world, held every two years at Parque Ibirapuera; and São Paulo Pride, celebrated in mid-June, and by most estimates the world's largest gay get-together.
São Paulo, being Brazil's center of commerce, a huge sprawling metropolis and the largest city in South America, probably isn't on your list of vacation hot-spots.
"São Paulo works so that the rest of Brazil can play," say the paulistanos. But when the day's work is over, the residents of this city of trade and industry like to play as hard as they work.
The city is huge. The best way to get around is by metro, the subway system is ranked as one of the best in the world. Taxis and buses are plentiful, but unless you're a wild, crazy, impatient driver yourself, you're better off not driving. The usual big city safety precautions apply.
